Brit
(BritChick - more about that later) was at a crossroads...
Coming from a
musical family she is an accomplished pianist and studied
music with "The
Royal School of Music" and the famous "Guildhall
School of Music, Speech & Drama in London, England".
Brit started piano lessons at the age of 5 and still has her
first Yamaha acoustic guitar which was given to her by her
parents at the age of 7. From an early age her Father would
drive her all over England so she could compete in Music
Festivals.
"There
was something missing", Brit recalls "but then on
several trips to the
USA back in the early 90's I discovered Country Music and just
knew that was
the missing piece of the jigsaw".
Acting with
her heart she packed up what she could carry and was on her way
to the USA within a week, "looking back it was a pretty
major decision but at the time just felt right. That was 18
years ago and apart from missing family and food I never
regretted my decision. I feel privileged to be in Country Music
at a time when the world is getting smaller and Country Music is
getting bigger". It's second nature for Brit to 'hop across
the pond' many times each year to visit family and perform
"and stock up on English tea and food. On the last trip we
actually filled Wembly arena in London with
Country Music Fans" Brit recalls.
As well as
writing and performing Country Music Brit has gained valuable
insight into the Country Music Industry by working closely with many leading Country Artists
including Billy Ray Cyrus, Collin Raye, Sherrie Austin, Tammy
Cochran (to name a few).
"I've learned so much in the studio and just hanging around
backstage and feel very fortunate to know many Country Artists
as my friends" says Brit, "I've also been an
Organizational member of the CMA for many years now, it's great
that Country Music is getting more International
recognition".
How do you
relax?
"In my spare time I love to (sleep in!) take off for a
day boating on the lake behind my house with my dogs. I love the
tranquility which
always seems to inspire me to write lyrics and music for new
songs. To wind-down I also love to sit listening to music and
make my own latch hook rugs which I hang around my home".
Bad Habits?
"I still can't resist indulging in a good cup of
English tea and biscuits several times a day!" says Brit
"and I'm a compulsive shoe shopper"
How did the
name BritChick come about?
"Actually that was the local Country Radio jocks. I used to
call in to chat to them and they'd say 'that Brit Chick is on
the line', naturally this soon became BritChick and the name
just stuck" says BritChick smiling...
